چکیده

This study investigated a mechanism for controlling the shape of Cu nanocrystals fabricated using the polyol process, which considers the thermodynamic transition from a faceted surface to a rough surface and the growth mechanisms of nanocrystals with faceted or rough surfaces. The faceted surfaces were stable at relatively low temperatures because of the low entropy of perfectly faceted surfaces. Nanocrystals fabricated using a coordinative surfactant stabilized the faceted surface at a higher temperature than those fabricated using a noncoordinative surfactant. The growth rate of the surface under a given driving force was dependent on the surface structure, i.e., faceted or rough, and the growth of a faceted surface was a thermally activated process. Surface twins decreased the activation energy for growth of the faceted surface and resulted in rodor wire-shaped nanocrystals.

Study of the Shape Controlling Silver Nanoplates by Reduction Process

In this work, we report synthesis of silver nanoplates by a simple reduction process of silver nitrate in the presence of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and N,N'-dimethyl formamide (DMF). The Characterization of the samples were carried out using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission-electron microscopy (TEM) and UV-vis spectroscopy. Absorption spectra of the nanoplates in comparison with that of the ...

Sub-10 nm platinum nanocrystals with size and shape control: catalytic study for ethylene and pyrrole hydrogenation.

Platinum nanocubes and nanopolyhedra with tunable size from 5 to 9 nm were synthesized by controlling the reducing rate of metal precursor ions in a one-pot polyol synthesis. A two-stage process is proposed for the simultaneous control of size and shape. In the first stage, the oxidation state of the metal ion precursors determined the nucleation rate and consequently the number of nuclei. The ...

Microwave-assisted polyol synthesis of copper nanocrystals without using additional protective agents.

We report the synthesis of 2 nm copper nanocrystals (Cu NCs) via a microwave-assisted polyol method without using additional protective and reducing agents. The Cu NCs are oxidation resistant and exhibit photoluminescence and highly stable properties in a colloidal dispersion.

Facile synthesis of palladium right bipyramids and their use as seeds for overgrowth and as catalysts for formic acid oxidation.

Controlling the shape and thus facets of metal nanocrystals is an effective way to enhance their performance in catalytic reactions. While Pd nanocrystals with a myriad of shapes have been successfully prepared with good uniformity and in high yield, Pd right bipyramids (RBPs) that have a singly twinned structure have been elusive. We report a facile route based on polyol reduction for the synt...
